Six Senses Douro Valley
Samodães - Lamego
Six Senses
Douro Valley sits within the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage-listed Douro
Valley. The 60-guest accommodation quinta, or wine estate, dates to the late
19th century when it was known as Quinta Vale de Abraão and its contemporary
interiors reflect both this rich heritage and Six Senses’ design values.
Located 125
kilometres (77,67 miles) from Oporto International Airport (OPO), the scenic
drive to the resort, along winding roads which pass many examples of the
region’s historic architecture, is one of Europe’s most captivating.
Six Senses
Douro Valley comprises 60 guest accommodations and a generously proportioned
Six Senses Spa with an indoor pool and 10 treatment rooms. At the heart of the
resort, the Wine Library houses a 700 references wine list, centred on the
wines of the Douro and Portugal.
A tasting room
with deli counter and self-service wine dispensers allow guests to pair the
region’s renowned or under-the-radar wines with freshly-prepared local
delicacies day into evening. Nightly 8:00 pm wine pairing dinners and private
wine tastings that can be booked throughout the day feature select sips from
the 350 vineyards from the surrounding area.
The relaxed, welcoming space also features a large reference library and
touchscreens linked to The Douro Museum’s extensive oenological resources.
Here, guest winemakers and international oenology experts present talks to the
guests, sharing fascinating insights into Portugal’s winemaking techniques and
sharing tasting tips.
The
restaurant, Vale d’Abraão, features an open kitchen design with wood-fired
ovens, a Josper grill, oversize fireplaces and several informal spaces where
guests may sample locally-sourced, regional specialties with a healthy twist.
Activities including wine and dine Douro River cruises, visits to the favourite
nearby wineries, tree climbing, kayaking, cycling, hiking and traditional
